70’s Side-Split Makeover
The necessity of moving closer to aging parents well into their golden years had this homeowner scrambling to find a suitable new bode of her own in the super-hot Greater Toronto Area real estate market. Despite receiving 19 offers, the sellers were empathic and understanding of our client’s situation after recently losing their own parents and as they wanted their parent’s home to go to a family intent on making it their own vs. it landing in the hands of a flipper, they granted the keys to our client. The day after closing, we embarked on an insanely tight project schedule to do a whole-house makeover in just 9 short weeks. All existing carpeting, flooring, fixtures etc. were all removed to eliminate the nicotine and smoke residue and several layers of a special shellac-based primer were painted on all walls and ceilings before renovations began. To open up the home’s rather modest footprint, the wall between the Kitchen and Dining Room was removed allowing us to install an island with seating along with all new appliance and cabinets with improved storage space all which allowed fabulous natural light to flow into the kitchen area from the Dining Rooms sliders to the outdoor deck. New LVT plank flooring was installed throughout the entire home, and the home’s two bathrooms were also completed updated as were all light fixtures and outlets. The home’s lower level family room also was updated including the addition of a sliding barn door to conceal and separate the laundry and storage areas.
